Congratulations to our newest C.B.V., Rob Smith

Rob began his career at DJB in 1996, qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1998 and appointed a Manager in 2002.

Rob’s past experience with DJB included providing accounting and auditing services for a variety of businesses including retail, manufacturing, construction, real estate, service businesses and not-for-profit organizations. Since 1998 Rob has been involved in the conduct and review of spot audits for the Law Society of Upper Canada.

In 2001 Rob began working with the firm’s Financial Services Advisory Team (FSAT). His work included the preparation of economic loss reports related to personal injury claims. In 2007 Rob expanded his practice to the area of business valuations. His experience in this area includes the preparation of valuation reports for a wide variety of businesses for varying purposes including acquisitions and divestitures, estate and tax planning, management internal use, litigation or negotiation of disputes, and matrimonial disputes. Additionally, Rob has prepared calculations of income for child and spousal support and the division of assets and liabilities based on the Family Law Act of Ontario.

Rob completed all requirements of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators program in 2011, thereby obtaining his C.B.V. designation. This is an intensive program designed to train candidates in the various aspects of business valuation. This program requires the successful completion of six course exams (generally completed over a three year period), the accumulation of at least 1,500 hours of business valuation experience and the successful completion of a comprehensive exam (Membership Entrance Exam).

Rob has participated in DJB presentations to various organizations on business valuation and economic loss claim matters. He currently serves as the Treasurer for the Hamilton/Halton Collaborative Family Practice Group. He has previously served as Treasurer of Burlington’s Sound of Music Festival.

Rob services the Hamilton/Halton region from our Grimsby office. He can be reached at 905.945.5439 or robsmith@djb.com.
